Christmas Market Trips!
Kick off December with a trip to one of Europe’s best Christmas markets!
Where better to start than Germany’s capital Berlin, but before you visit one of the 80 markets, tuck into breakfast with a view at the Berlin TV Tower: enjoy continental classics, cold cuts, and seafood, plus there's an avocado-filled vegan menu, all in a rotating restaurant peering out over panoramic sweeps of the city.
After you’ve started the day right then head to the city centre. Choose from Spandau, the biggest market in the city, Weihnachtszauber in the beautiful Gendarmenmarkt Square for art and crafts or for a more active experience, visit Winter World, on Potsdamer Platz where you can watch or take part in tobogganing, curling and ice-skating!
Second on our list is picture postcard Prague. Their main Christmas market takes place in the old town square, surrounded by Gothic architecture and pretty cobbled streets. While you are waiting for night to fall when the markets are at their best and full of atmosphere, take a trip to Lobkowicz Palace and hear a special midday classical concert.
After, sip warm glasses of grog, a heady mixture of rum, water, lemon and sugar, feast on sausages and pancakes, and pick up a hand-blown glass bauble.
For magical illuminations, Budapest is well worth a visit this December. The Basilica market, as well as all the usual fayre, has laser projections on the Basilica itself and an ice-skating rink that circles around a grand Christmas tree, making this a truly magical experience. Choose from an array of warming drinks such as raspberry schnapps, punch, and apple cider as you take in the luminous spectacle.
If you have time, take in the city from river Danube aboard the good ship Vino for a two-hour wine cruise with live entertainment.
