Fado has been sung in Portugal for almost two centuries but has recently become more universally recognised, in part to the success of female Fado singer Mariza. With her soulful voice, Mariza conveys electrifying emotions with her unique interpretation of modern fado and has sung with global stars such as Sting and Lenny Kravitz, bringing Fado to audiences across the USA and Europe.
Winner of the BBC Radio 3’s award for ‘Best European Artist in World Music’, EBBA Award (European Border Breakers Awards), and the Latin Grammy nomination for ‘Best Folk Album,’ for her record, “Concerto em Lisbon”, this year sees Mariza return with her new album Mariza Canta Amália and an upcoming tour.
