Spotlight on Bordeaux

Dreaming of cooling down this summer with a crisp glass of white wine, overlooking beautiful vineyards? Then take a trip to Bordeaux, often referred to as the wine capital of the world. With over 6,000 wine estates, it's easy to see why!

Bordeaux is also rich in history. The port city of Bordeaux, 'Port of the Moon', created during the Age of Enlightenment, now a UNESCO World Heritage site, has maintained its original port function since its development.  There are also 350 historic monuments within the city, with some chateaux dating back to the 12th century. The Place de la Bourse, with its stunning mirror lake reflection, home to 18th century art is well worth a visit. You can also take in the sites on board the post-war yacht, Le Luna, including the Gothic Bordeaux Cathedral and 18th and 19th century mansions.

It goes without saying that in Bordeaux you will be in for some gastronomical treats, but Bordeaux also offers a diverse art and music scene: the I BOAT, a former ferry, anchored permanently in 2011 and converted into a live music venue, has over 2,000 artists performing onboard each year. There is also the La Guinguette Chez Alriq, on the bank of the Garonne River where you can watch live concerts as the sun goes down.

For art lovers, the La Base Sous-Marine, an old concrete bunker, built during the second world war, has been transformed into an art venue showcasing digital projections, concerts and theatre performances. The Darwin Eco-système, another revitalisation project is a creative space where you will be surrounded by street art, skaters, DJs, brunch spots and boutiques, a top attraction for tourists and locals alike.
