Spotlight on Budapest
Take a walk along the River Danube this June before the crowds of high summer hit the beautiful city of Budapest. And as it’s the capital city of Hungary and the ninth largest city in Europe there is much to see and do!
With plenty of cultural activities, quirky bars, restaurants and cafes it’s a great place to amble around but there are some must-see sights as well, like the iconic Parliament building completed in 1902 combining gothic revival, baroque and renaissance architecture - a stunning landmark which is worthy of a visit both day and night as it sits just a little way back from the river.
Another must-do whilst in the city is heading up to Castle Hill, a UNESCO World Heritage Site situated 170m above the Danube, where you will find some of Budapest’s most important mediaeval monuments and museums.
Hungary is also known for its world class spas and a dip in one of these medicinal baths should be part of any trip to Budapest!
You can get your tickets for the ‘Széchenyi Spa and Palinka Museum’ here.
With 15 indoor pools, saunas, steam rooms, and three huge outdoor pools, you'll be bathing in utter bliss and boosting your health at the same time. Enjoy spa access and feel the high concentration of minerals in the water as they make your skin feel baby soft. At Szechenyi Spa Baths you'll enjoy hot tubs, saunas, and jet-powered underwater massages. After your spa experience, visit an interactive exhibition dedicated to the Hungarian national spirit, palinka. The Palinka Museum tells the story of this special tipple, which is protected in Hungarian law, such is its importance. Try some of the good stuff and maybe even take some home!
End your trip with a two-hour wine-tasting cruise featuring fine wines, live entertainment, and a powerful sense of just how good life can be as you cruise the Danube, don’t forget to take some snaps too!
